Bridget Nicholson “Witness”

I have just finished work with local artist Bridget Nicholson for her upcoming work “Witness” at abbots ford convent. A highly talented lady who takes sculptures of peoples feet and displays them in unique patterns. I edited and set up a 5 channel sound system for her work and it sounds and looks amazing! Live at The Toff in Town 06/11/12

I played a rare live performance with Tom Baker last week using our combined manipulations of recordings we took whilst travelling Sth East Asia earlier this year. Played with an awesome line up of artists and turned out to be a great night.

Heart Shaped Bruises Video Documentation.

Diego Ramirez has sent me the final Video for his installation work i composed for.

Great Video documenting the approach and style.

Here is some writing about it:

Heart-Shaped Bruises employs an abstract scene of domestic violence as an allegory to explore issues related to gender. Accentuating plasticity and artifice, I perform a couple made of two pervasive gender stereotypes, the “Femme Fatale” and “The Jock”. Clearly, the “couple” is not a real couple, but me lip-synching, dressing and cross-dressing. The characters have a dramaturgic edge, but are by no means unrealistic. Heart-Shaped Bruises seeks to question the way in which we perform gender stereotypes and the social harm that they produce, as well as bringing attention to their absurdity.

The abrasive sound by Ryan Granger captures the tormented psyche of the characters. Where gender binaries are so violent and destructive that they have bruised their bodies, broken their noses and disfigured their faces.

The flat screens on which the work is presented resemble family portraits, while the sound equipment that surrounds them echoes a home theatre system.

Narration recording,

Had a laugh recording lines such as:

“It is recommended that the whistle be smeared with as lubricant jelly” for an online learning module.

Ben Webber was a trooper for eventually not laughing all the way through the lines.
