I recently recorded, sound designed, composed and mixed a short promo for the new “Beating the Drum” Initiative for regional group DrumMuster. Cogs, drums and irrigation ahoy!
New Digs!!
Well I am very happy to have finally moved in and working at my new Sound design, composition and mixing suite for Dead on Sound at Oh Yeah Wow studios.
The room was designed from the ground up by acoustic engineer Sven Rechenberger and built by the capable hands of Steve Sikkema. Huge thanks goes to Michael Trebilcock for his electrical nouse and hard work, Matt Ryan for his help in painting and finishing and Jodie Zomer for her excellent interior design package and taste. Special mention to Jake Louis Rush for introducing me to the build team.
Thanks to the Oh yeah wow crew, Darcy Prendergast, Seamus Spilsbury, Nicky Pastore, Mike Greaney, Josh Thomas for putting up with nearly three months of building and all plaster dust and noise etc etc, you guys rock!
But the biggest thanks goes to Jade Myconos for putting up with all the late nights and stress and all her excellent advice through the process.
Thanks to the academy!!
Currently working on some some exciting projects for the gang here including a pilot series called SupaPhresh conceived by Darcy for the Nickelodeon channel and a screen Victoria animation short for the talented Mr Greany. I am also working on the usual slew of corporate gigs etc I generally post about on my blog Ryangranger.com
I am looking forward to working with my friend and colleague Adam Hunt aka Neon Radio for many future projects.
Grillz
A short I sound designed and Re-mixed last year will be screening at the St kilda film festival on 23rd May. Great short by Lucy Gouldthrope about a vampire in need of some urgent dentistry. http://www.stkildafilmfestival.com.au/2015-s2/details/359
Suncorp
I recently completed sound design and location recording for production company “Storylab”
The video was for Suncorp insurance to help them treat their customers better, the crew and production team were fun and their was only 4 revisions (haha)
Here’s a link to the Video
Mayday/Aircrash investigations
Last week I worked on my favourite show, Aircrash investigations. It was awesome to be in on my all time nerd crush and meet the researchers and Dp’s responsible for the show i have watched for 14 full seasons.
My show will be a part of Season 15, I can’t really say much more due to contract obligations, but its an interesting crash.
The logistics of the location were horrible, I was recording literally next door to Flinders st train station, it interrupted the interviews constantly, but we ended up moving to a quieter space that only had a constant murmur rather than constant transients.
Here is a photo Mika the DP took of what i would look like being interviewed for the show (as an investigator rather than a survivor, i hope) the other is of the lead investigator for the crash being interviewed.
NGV
Started doing some contract work for the NGV, thefts project was recording the artist John Wolosely while he painted with a dead pelican and spoke of his process. Got to work with old friend James wright and Matt Richards on the film.
New studio/edit space for Dead on Sound being built as we speak
I have a new edit suite in the building stageat the new Oh yeah Wow facilities in brunswick east.
It has been a crazy process over seeing it from design to build. I have learnt a lot about building and acoustics in the process thanks to the engineer and builder.
can’t wait to get in their and start working!!
Nickelodeon series “Supaphresh”
Full steam ahead on a new series for the Nickelodeon channel. We are in a 4 or 5 episode pilot series right now. Two episodes have had the dialogue recorded and epsidoe one is in full progress. I am supervising the sound design and taking care of all the pre lay and mix.
having a blast on this one but it’s a weird process…
The disappearance of Willie Bingham
I spent a week location recording for Matt Richard’s Screen Australia funded film “The disappearance of Willie Bingham”. It was a long week spent filming around Royal park hospital, a creepy unused section of a functioning hospital, a primary school and Pentridge prison. I was able to work with good friend Ben Bomitali who helped my process immensely.

Charlie
I just finished up the Sound design and mix for director Daniel Portos film “Charlie”. A well shot little thriller that has some dark and funny moments, good acting and some great sound mounts to sink our teeth into. We are delivering everything in 5.1 now as well, so that has had some interesting experiments and results.
As always Adam hunt came to the party and did some excellent work on the film.
