“Recipe for Community”

I am very happy to have been commissioned to provide a multi speaker installation sound work for an upcoming exhibition at the St heliers gallery at the Abbotsford convent.

the work will occur in may 2014 and for the raw material i ran a workshop with The early learning centre, Interact arts Australia, Bethlehem community group and Youthworx productions, between us we had an amazing range of people and abilities and collected sounds relevant to the community of the abbots ford convent.

I am looking forward to processing the sounds and composing the sound narrative that will be heard throughout the exhibition, More details to come!

153 musicians for Bimblebox Nature Refuge

I have just completed my birdcall for an installtion to save the Bimblebox Nature Refuge in central-west Queensland from Clive parker, 153 musicians to record their interpretation of one of the calls of the 153 bird species.

http://www.burragorang.org/bimbleboxbirds.php

we were asked to read the description and interpret the call, This is my Bird:

Black Falcon
Falco subniger
Call like that of Peregrine, but deeper, slower, ‘gaak-gaar-gaak-’, becoming a more excited ‘gak-gak-gak-’ if an intruder is near the nest tree. In sudden alarm a single ‘gaaark!’. Also gives a call quite unlike other falcons in courtship and display flights – a loud, high, sharp, scratchy ‘eeik-eeik’ every 3 to 5 sec. Morecombe

Here is my interpretation!!

it was made using a cymbal, a ratchet, a bowl of water, a thunder maker and a kalimba

“RABBIT”

I just finished sound editing and the sound mix for Matt Richards new film “Rabbit” about a boy who is clinging onto the only thing he loves as he faces losing everything. It was written by Nicolas Denton and is shot very well, very tasty camera work and was fun and challenging to mix.

Just passing through

Here’s a webpage for a Doco I recently mixed, it was Directed by Thomas Hyland and follows a very interesting series of interviews with Gareth Liddiard, Sarah Blasko and Paul Dempsy about the realities of making a living from music in this day and age, the director was a pleasure to work with and the documentary is very well contracted.

BEAST

I have been working steadily with Darcy Prendergast at Oh yeah Wow studio to get his short film “BEAST” under wraps!!!

I have composed a moody and organic score and added the final touches on the SD over the last few days, it is a short narrative, minimal actors and locations but has some great makeup effects and some snappy dialogue, looking forward to seeing this one on the big screen!

No Company

I recently finished up the composition and sound design for Ben Morgans film “No Company”.  Another film Set in World War 2 so i was able  to continue the themes of gunfire, bullet hits and various weapons. The music was created through a study of drones to push the story and add weight. one of my favourite films i have worked on!!!

MyMy

We recently finished up one of our most ambitious films to date for Anna Helme called “MyMy”

Nearly three weeks of some very intricate and very intense sound design combined with an innovative and daring film. The music by Nina Buchanan is amazing and it was interesting working with someone in another state, ahhhh the technology. slipped in some induction coil recordings and hydrophone work as the film had, you guessed it, computers and underwater shots, fun getting these things together

Looking forward to seeing this one on the big screen and a great collaboration between Adam hunt and I.
